In Enniscrone, Co. Sligo, Ireland, there is a large 767 airplane in a field. It is part of the Quirky Glamping Village. As you know, Nick loves planes and we were told we had to see it. He thought it was very funny.
Over the weekend, we heard many stories about the man who envisioned this business. It is really an amazing story. Right now, it seems that he has overshot his budget and is working on other financing to finish his vision.
Many times there are unexpected roadblocks that arise and other times we don’t get to see the culmination of our vision, but we need to move forward with our dreams.
Oprah Winfrey said, “It doesn’t matter how far you might rise. At some point, you are bound to stumble. If you’re constantly pushing yourself higher and higher, the law of averages predicts that you will at some point fall. And when you do, I want you to remember this: There is no such thing as failure. Failure is just life trying to move us in another direction.”
We have moved in many different directions in our life, both with taking care of Nick and our professions. I love Oprah’s explanation.
If we had not walked the winding path that we have been on for the last 40 years, we wouldn’t have learned the lessons that we did.
In one of Nick’s favorite songs titled “The Dance,” Garth Brooks sings, “I could have missed the pain, But I’d have had to miss the dance.”
I am inspired by David McGowan and his glamping project in Co. Sligo. It reminds me that stepping forward with courage is always better than sitting back and doing nothing, no matter what the outcome.
